I’m sure you probably know by now that one of my recommendations to start to make some changes to our eating it to track it accurately, at least for a few days.
Record what we’re eating on an app like MyFitnessPal.
Without that degree of accuracy, anything else is kind of guess work.
People might generally describe how they eat to me and it sounds kinda fine.
The direction I might then give would be fairly generic.
With an accurate record of what we’ve eaten and how much we can start to look at appropriate portion sizes for some of our size and activity levels……..
And tactical swaps for something else that we’re equally happy to have but that will help us move towards our goals.
It’s not an uncommon thing when people come to show me the results of their tracking that there are a few days missing.
I’ll start flicking through and Monday to Friday lunchtime look fine.
That there’s nothing tracked until the following Monday morning.
“Yeah, the weekend wasn’t great” is the kind of explanation they’ll then give.
Which I get.
But, as I’m sure you guessed from the blog title, that’s like only tracking our financial expenditure on the days that we don’t spend much.
If we recorded what we were spending during the week and it was generally less than one seventh of what we needed it to be……..
But we were spiralling into debt…….
Then taking note of what we’re spending at the weekend would probably make sense.
Even if we’re not entirely sure because we’re eating out or someone else is feeding us, we can have an educated guess.
We could put in 1,000 calories of curry and rice, for example.
If we’re sure it’s less than that, then how’s about 500?
If it’s probably more than that, maybe 750?
You get the point.
We can put something in that won’t be a million miles from the truth.
And what’s more likely is that, when we know we’re going to track it, we use a bit more common sense.
We still have a great time but we do it on two thirds of the calories.
Make some slightly different choices.
Go lighter elsewhere over the weekend.
Just stop at what was an appropriate portion size for someone of our size and activity levels.
Just have the integrity to do what we said we would and track what happened, whatever it was.
And then know how much of an adjustment we might need to make in the week to still make that work.
Much love,
