Imagine that you’re a mechanic.
You may not need to imagine.
Somebody brings their car into the garage.
They tell you that there’s a problem with the engine.
“The car is using more fuel than my wife’s” they say.
You have a quick look at both cars and immediately identify what’s happened.
One car is considerably bigger than the other.
And it does more miles.
Nothing wrong with the engine.
It’s just use more fuel because it’s moved something bigger further.
Much like happens with differences that we may put down to being our “metabolism”.
If somebody else is bigger and / or more active than us……..
Then they’ll need more energy.
From food.
This isn’t a difference in metabolism.
It’s a difference in size and activity levels.
All the large scale studies ever done show very little difference between energy needs of people when size and activity matched.
+/- 80 calories a day.
And it may even be that most of that is explainable through the limitations of our ability to assess the difference in body composition of weight matched people.
Ultimately, whatever the case, your body requires a certain amount of energy.
An amount just to keep it working.
And an extra amount for how much it moves.
We can change the latter of course.
But whatever our energy requirements are, they are what they are.
We can just then choose how much “fuel” we put in to work around that (and we can help with getting clear on how much fuel you need, finding ways to change that fuel that you’re happy to do and some movement that will get that ‘car’ driving better –> www.myrise.co.uk/apply) .
Much love,
Jon ‘The wife and I have been assessing how often all 6 of us travel in the 7 seater car to see if we need one next time we change cars or if two smaller cars would make more sense. It’s been twice this year so far!’ Hall
