I’ve done a few blogs about “confidence” recently.

And, judging from the responses, it’s been something that’s been hitting home.

It’s something that many of us (myself included) have thought, at times, that we’d like more of.

But we’re never really taught how to make that happen are we?

Not in a way that’s actually helped – otherwise we’d all have all the confidence levels we’d like.

Another powerful consideration is that, often, what we’re really wanting……….

Is not ‘confidence’…………

But ‘certainty’.

If we were 100% certain that it would go exactly as we’d like, we’d find it much easier to ask that person out, stand up and speak in front of people, ask for that pay rise, have that tricky conversation and so on.

But, as I’m sure you know, there are only two certainties in life.

Death and taxes.

We can never be 100% certain how something will go.

And, let’s be honest, the more certain we are of something, the less worthwhile it often is.

We can be 99.99% sure that the turning the tele on will work.

But that doesn’t bring us much progress in life, does it?

The things that really move us forwards are never certain.

We can do what we can to prep for them to make that as likely as possible, sure.

But knowing that it may go wrong…………

And being ok with that………

Is actually where our confidence grows.

Knowing that, whatever happens, we’ll be ok………..

That, hard as it might be, we can handle it………..

Is what confidence is all about.

So, next time you’re struggling with confidence, ask yourself if it’s confidence or certainty that you’re wanting here.

And remember that there is no certainty.

And be ok with that.

Much love,

Jon ‘Computer’ Hall
