For a high portion of people, when they start with us at RISE, they feel that what they need is to be “told what to eat”.
To be “given a meal plan” to follow.
And, as I’ll tell them, if that was what was needed then no one would be overweight.
We’ve been able to get meal plans for free on the internet for over twenty years.
What I often do is help people look at some tactical adjustments that they can make around the way they currently eat.
And to analyse the reasons behind their choices.
In a lot of cases, part of some people’s challenge is that they eat a lot of high calorie density food.
So stuff with a lot of calories per hundred grams.
And often, when I ask why people choose certain things when looking at their eating, they’ll reply with things like;
“I was hungry” or……
“I’ve got a big appetite”.
As the title to this blog suggests, that’s the worst time to eat calorie dense food.
Because the higher the density, the lower the volume we can have for the same number of calories.
So we could argue it doesn’t make much sense to have something where we can’t have very much of it when we’re hungry or if we have a big appetite.
If anything, it should be the exact opposite.
If we’re not very hungry and / or don’t eat very much, then we can get away with the small portions of high calorie density food.
The bigger our general appetite or the hungrier we are, then the lower calorie density options would make sense.
Because we could have more food.
Much love,
Jon ‘best of times’ Hall
