Over the last three days I’ve talked about the main coaching programme that I’ve been part of for the last 6 years.

It’s not the only coaching, training, mentoring or education that I’ve done though.

Sure, it’s the main consistent over that time, but I’ve invested time and money in various other things things that I think are good fit for helping with specific challenges.

A few years ago I bought a programme that I’d seen advertised by fitness business and marketing expert who’s stuff I’d followed for a while.

It involved access to an online portal with various educational material and a few online calls.

It was very useful.

So a year or two later, when I saw him advertising a cheaper programme, I immediately purchased.

On receiving the information, I was initially disappointed to see that the online portal was the exact same one as before, which I still had lifetime access to.

So I bought this up on the first call with him.

“I’ve already paid for this programme”

“Yes and no” he started to respond.

Before pointing out, they I hadn’t done a proportion of the things in the original programme.

Some things that I’d specifically said that I would.

There’s been three particular changes to the way that I run the business (payment method, notice period and initial programme structure if you’re interested) that I’d been meaning to make since.

And hadn’t.

Partly because I was worried about how they would be received.

“If I get you to make those changes now” he continued, “then you’ll regain that investment many times over”.

So I did.

And I did.

And, low and behold, there were zero issues from anyone with the changes that I made.

And the total turnover of the business since then has more than justified that investment.

Because, ultimately, what we invest in his results.

The actual things that we might receive for our investment are steps in getting those results, sure.

But it’s the results that we want.

And sometimes, just getting us to do something that we could have just done by ourselves, but didn’t, is the most invaluable investment we can ever make.

It’s a no uncommon conversation I have with people when they point out that everything we do with them they could “do by myself”.

“Of course” is my normal reply.

“But you’ve told me several times that you haven’t been doing it by yourself, on average and consistently enough for over X years now”

We’ve had access to most of the information that we need to do most of the things that we want to do for free on the internet for 20 years now.

Yet, as a society, we’re getting fatter, sicker and lower in energy and mood than at any point in history.

A good coach doesn’t give you yet more things to do to add onto the list of things you already aren’t doing.

A good coach actually helps you do the things that need to be done to get the results you want (it’s www.myrise.co/uk/apply if you’re ready want actual results over the coming months).

Much love,

Jon ‘Best coach’ Hall
