On July 4th 1776 Thomas Jefferson and chums announced that the 13 American colonies would now regard themselves as thirteen independent sovereign states no longer under British rule.

 

Although the language of what they said has moved on, there’s tonnes in there to show that not much has changed in the 242 years since.

 

##### As an aside, that made me think of the Busted song ‘Year 3,000’.

 

“Not much has changed, but we live under water. Triple breasted women swim around town totally naked”.

 

A fairly big change that lads!

 

And don’t get me started on “your great, great, great-granddaughter is pretty fine”.

 

5 generations in 1,000 years?

There’s a quote in the DoI (as I shall now refer to it):

 

“All experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.”

 

Personal Training Change

 

So, people are more happy to put up with stuff that is still just about bearable than to make the changes that will make it better.

 

Human nature.

 

By the time people start with us they’ve usually been going in a direction they don’t like for years or decades.

 

Only once that ‘evil’ passed the point of being ‘sufferable’ do we feel the need to make change.

 

We all do it.

 

Ourselves included.

 

The only difference is our personal opinion on what is evil and what’s sufferable.

 

And it, obviously , varies across domains.

 

I know tonnes of FitPros who wouldn’t ‘suffer’ anything less than the perfect six-pack……..

 

While other areas of their lives are at a point that some of their overweight clients wouldn’t ever let them get to.

 

So, the point of this email, is to question this approach.

 

Human nature, sure.

 

But do we have to wait till things get so bad?

 

Make a Personal Training Change

 

If it’s going in that direction and we know it’ll get there unless something changes………

 

Then changing now is waaaaayyyyyy easier.

 

Imagine being dragged deeper under water.

 

We wouldn’t wait till the last second before we kicked for the surface.

 

Start kicking now.

 

Whatever that entails.

 

Already with us and things not going quite as you’d like?

 

Talk to us about it, sure.

 

But you know what to do.

 

Not with us and ready to stop being pulled further under?
