A little while ago I wrote a blog about how what we do at RISE is more like being a lighthouse, lighting the way for many rather than most FitPros approach of being a tugboat – shoving around a few almost against their will (myrise.co.uk/lighthouse-or-tugboat-group-transformation).

I was thinking about this the other day.

It was a frustrating day.

Some days are filled with members making big changes to their lives and hearing their stories of how what we do has helped them is heart warming.

Some days my kids are on top form.

Some times the kids are being ridiculous and annoying.

And there are days with conversation after conversation with members who are doing the exact opposite of what will get them the result they say is important to them.

When you realise that, directly after they’ve said “I’m absolutely desperate. I’ve tried everything. I’ll do whatever you say”………….

And we’ve then worked out together a doable plan to get them going in the right direction (don’t just tell people what to do – not our bag and rarely works)……….

And they’ve then walked out and gone straight to the chippy on the way home (other less good food choices are available).

An extreme but not unheard of example.

It was one of those kinda days.

And it can get to you.

Make you question what you’re doing.

But I came to a realisation.

The downside of being a lighthouse is…………

You have to watch some crash on the rocks!

Sometimes spectacularly.

Sometimes little bumps along the way to their destination.

Sometimes into the same rock over and over and over again.

But that’s what comes with being a lighthouse.

We’ll try and get as many as possible safely there of course.

But they won’t all make it.

The tugboat is blissfully unaware.

Getting frustrated with the few it can coax and prod and push into slow progress.

Not even knowing there are others around crashing away in the dark that it could save.

And it’s the same for all of us.

You’ll have people in your life that frustrate you and make it all much harder than it has to be.

You too can get annoyed and try and ‘force’ them to change course like the tugboat.

Or you can be the lighthouse.

Shine your light out there and illuminate the path (there’s a rather nice path down at RISE that many have followed to where they’ve always wanted to go –> myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting).

You’ll have to see other crash on the rocks.

But, it’s the only way………..

Much love,

Jon ‘Round the twist’ Hall and Matt ‘We are gonna be……’ Nicholson
