There’s an expression that “you’re the average of a five people you spend the most time with”.

Whilst I’m sure that’s not entirely true, there is definitely a big impact on our standards from those we surround ourselves with.

If most people we associate with are overweight and don’t exercise, we’re more likely to do the same.

And vice versa.

The same with how much alcohol we drink (this has been part of my problem this last year).

How much we complain.

Our general outlook on life.

It’s not a 100% direct correlation, sure.

But that average is likely to pull you in one direction or the other.

So, therefore, it stands to reason, that the quickest way to change our standards………

Is to change our peer group.

That doesn’t mean, like some coaches will tell you, that you have to remove people from your life.

But, maybe, we can change the average.

Add in some other people who are doing the things that you want to do.

Or spend more time with them if they’re already there.

That peer group is a massive part of why our members have such high success in their health and fitness goals when they’re struggled before (it’s www.myrise.co.uk/apply if you like the sound of that!).

They go from renting access to some equipment in a large building where no one knows them……..

To being part of a group of people who are getting their sessions in, making their better food choices and achieving results.

To a degree, they get dragged along by that collective momentum.

And our peer group doesn’t just have to be ‘in person’.

Nowadays we can connect with people online super easily.

Whether that’s on a surface level by listening to their podcasts, watching their videos or reading their blogs.

Or something a bit more interactive.

However, you go about doing it, remember that fastest way to change your standards……..

Is to change your peer group.

Much love,
