What’s the most draining thing you can do?

Go on – what do you reckon?

What drains the life out of you?

I can imagine a few of the things you might mention.

I’ve got a suggestion for you though.

Arguing with reality.

Wishing things were different.

Telling ourselves “I should……”, “I need to…….” or “I outght to be…….”.

Thinking other people should behave differently.

Absolutely drains the life out of you.

One of the most powerful things we can do is learn to accept.

Not to “let off”.

Not to “lower standards”.

But just to accept that things are what they are.

That people will behave in a way we don’t agree with.

That we won’t always do what we tell ourselves we want to.

That life isn’t easy.

We can accept things and work on changing them.

Or we can accept things and leave them as they are.

Arguing with reality is like being angry that the weather is bad.

The proverbial old man shaking his fist at the cloud.

We can change nothing and accept we’ll get wet.

Or we can change what we’re wearing accordingly.

Take the logical next step.

Being angry at the weather just drains us.

And, in all areas, removing that arguing with reality is one of the most powerful things we can ever do.

Much love,

Jon ‘Shake harder boy’ Hall
