My assistant Best Man from my wedding is a Tottenham Hotspur fan.

He was Best Man at my first wedding but then got demoted by my then 4 and 6 years old sons at my second.

Having being mediocre for many years, it seems Spurs are doing quite well now.

Who would have thought 20 years ago that amongst a Spurs (Ben), City (Dan), Liverpool (Matt) an Derby fan (me, kinda) that it would be Derby who would have the worse next two decades!

Anyway, there’s another Spurs.

The San Antonio Spurs.

They play basketball.

And they’ve got a quote printed on the wall in their lockeroom.

By a guy called Jacob A Rees.

“When nothing seems to help, I go and look at a stonecutter hammering away at his rock perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred and first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not that blow that did it, but all that had gone before.”

Sometimes it can feel this way with out results.

Weight loss, fitness, strength, health or whatever else.

That we’re not getting much back from all the effort.

But, like that stone cutter, it will come.

Not from the last workout before you notice something’s changed.

Or the last meal before someone comments that you’ve lost weight.

Or that final refused snack before you hit your target weight.

It’s all that had gone before that add up.

The hundred(s) of decisions that, finally, cause the ‘rock to split in two’.

So, don’t get disheartened.

Make, sure you’re doing the right thing.

That your choice of exercise method and / or eating WILL get you there (check with me if you’re not sure).

Then just keep chipping away (or start chipping by clicking this link if you haven’t already –> myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting) ………..

Much love,

Jon ‘Premier league record’ Hall and Matt ‘Lost to Spurs’ Nicholson
