Have you ever felt you’ve struggled with consistency?

“I just need to be more consistent” you might say.

I think we probably all have at various points.

I’ve got a couple of things for you to consider that will probably, at least, underpin those struggles.

I’m going to split it across today’s and tomorrow’s blogs.

In part because it’s not easy banging these bad boys out daily for a decade.

Today’s consideration;

It’s hard to be consistent when you don’t know what you’re being consistent to.

If our plan involves words like “more”, “less” or “better” I’d be willing to place a bet that it ain’t gonna happen.

“I need to eat better”

“I’m going to exercise more”

“I’m going to drink less”

And so on.

For all of these, it’s pretty much impossible to know for sure if we’re on track.

And if we don’t really know how it’s going, that little voice will tell us it ain’t going great.

And it’s hard to set a particularly effective plan around more, less and better.

We just wander into the day telling ourselves “I know what I need to do, I just need to do it”.

From my experience popping a number on a goal immediately makes it much easier to set plans around it.

It helps us keep track of if we’re on target.

And course correct if we’re not.

The difference between saying “I’m going to exercise more” and “I’m going to do 12 workouts at XYZ per month” is that we’ll schedule them and make arrangements for them to happen.

Then rearrange when needed.

If “I need to eat better” becomes “I’m going to have 10,500 calories across the week” then we’ll look at a plan to make that happen.

When “I’m going to drink less” becomes “I’ll drink no more than 10 times a month” we’ll look at how we’re going to make that occur.

It doesn’t make it guaranteed, of course.

We still have to do the actual thing.

But it will way more likely that you’ll be consistent to your intention………

If that intention has a number on it.
