The second of the two major lessons I would say I’ve learned over the last twenty years is the value of your peer group.

About surrounding yourself with people who create a degree of collective momentum that you get dragged along with.

That raise your own standards.

And about how tempting it is to turn to our peer groups with lower standards when the going gets tough.

When most people we encounter are in a similar position to us (whether that be weight, fitness, income, lifestyle or any other factor), we stay where we are.

Or, in reality, probably slip slowly backwards.

When we allow (and encourage) people into our lives who are performing at a higher standard in the areas we want to………..

And have the courage to immerse ourselves in that sometime less comfortable environment………..

We level up.

In the coaching programme that I’m part of, there are some who earn 100 times what I do.

That’s fine.

I know I’ll make the business more successful (and change more people’s lives) by hanging out with them than I will hanging out with the average FitPro who earns minimum wage and has left the industry after 18 months, having impacted very few.

I could hang out with a lot of Dads and feel brilliant about my performance as a Dad.

But hanging out with who I consider to be excellent Dads only benefits my kids.

And if we choose to hang out with people who, whilst facing similar challenges to us…………

Still get their workouts in…………

Make food choices that, on average, give them the body and energy levels that they want………..

Prioritise self care as they know it’s the least selfish thing they can do for the knock on advantages for everyone who benefits from them bringing their A game…………

Then we do more of the same (here’s where you find a peer group that will help you do just that –> www.myrise.co.uk/apply).

Sure, it can be uncomfortable sometimes.

It can hold a mirror up to us and our justifications.

But, it’s worth it.

They say that hell is when, on our death bed…………

Who we became…………

Meets who we could’ve become.

And, if I can guarantee one thing, hanging out with more people who are like who we desire to become will take us closer to being that person.

Much love,

Jon ‘Review’ Hall
