You may have noticed we’ve been having a big push recently to help people change their perception of what ‘exercise’ is.

Both in these blogs, and if you’re a member, in the members-only videos and posts in the group, in conversation in the club.

To help people realise what exercise is.

What is Exercise?

So what is exercise? As defined by the dictionary – “activity requiring physical effort, carried out to sustain or improve health and fitness”

Something you can do three times per week, irrespective of circumstance.

what is exercise

Not some other, ‘more specific’ definition we use which may be something circumstance stops us doing from time to time.

Exercise is something we may have to slow down and speed up on.

But we never, ever need to stop.

#dontstop

(Check RISE in Macclesfield’s website if you’re ready, with support, to restart one more time and then keep it up)

So here, in order of preference (at least from the point of view of a member), is the different forms of exercise we can do.

If, three or more times a week, we do the one we can that’s highest up the list, we’ll get there with time.

1. GTP Session at the club

= 2. Home GTP Session via the app / website

= 2. Some other exercise of similar duration and / or intensity (custom built workout from the app / site, run, class or gym workout somewhere, etc)

4. Some other exercise of lower duration or intensity

5. Some other exercise of lower duration or intensity (some body weight exercises, as stretch, etc)

6. No exercise

The worst kind of workout?

The one you just didn’t do.

It doesn’t need to be any more complicated than that.

Dependant on circumstance (illness, injury, work, holidays, other commitments, etc) do the option that the highest up the list you can.

Three or more times a week.

And, over time, the magic will happen.

We’re waaaaayyyyyyy more likely to get back to 1s and 2s if we’ve slowed down to 4s and 5s than if we’ve just gone straight to 6s, aren’t we?

Much love,

Jon ‘First the’ Hall and Matt ‘Witch’ Nicholson

P.S. Yesterday’s middle names – “Don’t cry for me Argentina’ and ‘Don’t you forget about me’

P.P.S. Go on the, a point for those middle names for those of you that are on a point collecting rampage 😉
