I’m sure we’re all aware that it was the Wright Brothers (Orville and Wilbur innit) who created the first aeroplane to successfully fly, in 1903.

What I didn’t realise till I just had a looksie on Wikipedia is that Orville died just nine years after from typhoid.

At the time, there were lots of people attempting to complete the first “controlled, sustained flight of a powered, heavier-than-air aircraft”

But the Wrights took a slightly different approach to most.

Most were adding progressively more powerful engines to their existing creations.

Trying to use more effort to overcome the problem.

The Wrights favoured the approach of developing and mastering control of gliders first.

Getting the aerodynamics right first.

Before adding a bit of power in when they were happy with that.

Essentially removing the brakes that had been holding others back.

Which, obviously, worked well for them.

And could for us too.

As we often just try and add more power.

Just ‘try harder’ at something that hasn’t worked (long term) before).

Putting more and more effort in while those same brakes are still on.

Grinding ourselves into the ground with harder and harder workouts………….

While working of flexibility, range of motion and resolving injuries and imbalances would get us further long term.

Trying the same diet or eating approach again when our mindsets that underpin it are the same as they were before.

Adding more time consuming stuff in when we’ve already got even more going on than last time we tried it.

And so on.

If that’s you, take your ‘foot of the gas’ a little for now.

Lets look at what’s going on between our ears, throughout our body and within our lives.

Some brakes, perhaps, can’t be released.

But some, perhaps, can.

Where are they and what can we do to do that equivalent of making everything that little bit more aerodynamic.

And then, maybe, add a bit more power back in then?

Much love,

Jon ‘Wrong’ Hall and Matt ‘Left’ Nicholson

P.S. As always, if you (or a friend) haven’t tried us out yet (and like the sound of an approach that isn’t just “try harder”, then here’s the next step –> myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting
