The other day I watched ‘David Brent: Life on the Road’
The follow up film to the BBC comedy docu-soap from about 15 years ago.
It got me thinking about some classic lines from the show.
Remember Keith?
The rather deluded gentleman in accounts who seems to have an opinion of himself that doesn’t quite match what others see.
He had a habit of saying something particular humorous.
Followed by his hand appearing from off camera to insert a scotch egg into his mouth.
Like in this conversation between Keith and Tim:
Keith: “Well men get turned on by what they see but women get turned on by what they hear. I always make sure the woman hears the right thing.”
Tim: “Yeah, so what do you do while you’re a wooing, do you sing to them or…?”
Keith: “No I very tenderly explain to them that I can guarantee them at least one orgasm.”
Cue scotch egg.
Now I get Keith’s intent.
He’s offering an outcome that, on the face of it, seems appealing.
But it falls down somewhat when those it’s offered to may doubt it’s an achievable outcome in that particular case.
Or not feel that the process is worth going through for the outcome.
Which I get is how most people feel about fitnessy stuff when they see it marketed to them.
Pictures of twenty something year olds with their six packs out don’t appeal to most.
Outside of twenty something year olds who are only 5-10% body fat away from that.
Most people don’t feel that’s something they could actually get.
Or they can, but just don’t feel what would need to happen to get their would be worth it.
Same with all the feel fantastic / amazing / phenomenal stuff you see.
It feels too far away for most.
We get that.
We know that when most people start with us, they’re not planning on going all the way from A to Z.
Just getting to “Not A” to start is enough.
We may then go onto points B, C and maybe, eventually, Z.
Maybe.
But Point J is way better than Point A.
If you’re not happy with where you are at the moment, let’s just take a single step away from A.
If you’re already a member book your next session.
If you’re not, check this out –> myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting.
Plan one healthy food shop or one good meal.
Get one thing in place that will make something easier – a water bottle at work, black out blinds in the bedroom, magnesium salts for the bath, etc.
Let’s just take that one step.
Another will follow.
If it becomes two steps forward, one step back, that’s fine.
We’ll get there.
Even if ‘there’ is just ‘not here’ 🙂
Much love,
Jon ‘Gareth’ Hall and Matt ‘Finchy’ Nicholson
