💡💡💡

Last Wednesday I took part in an activity called Break Point as part of the coaching programme I’m part of.

Designed by Ollie Ollerton off of the tele.

—— Insert standard “Beware the coach that doesn’t have their own coach. They either have every single aspect of their life absolutely perfect. Or, more likely, they don’t believe in coaching as much as they tell you ———-

We met at 7am for a 7.30 am outside a Youth Hostel in rural Shropshire.

We were split into groups (social distancing innit) and briefed on our mission for the day.

We had to ‘yomp’ 11k up into the (rather steep) hills.

Gaining various bits of intel as we went.

Then ‘storm a compound’ (with guns, smoke grenades and flash bangs) to get the final bit of info.

Our extraction was then compromised and we were told to run.

But were ‘picked up’ by unidentified military types with Doberman dogs.

Blindfolded and subjected to two hours of interrogation, disorientation tactics, stress positions and more.

Before being driven in a minibus, put up against a wall and informed that we were about to be shot.

It was both not as bad as I thought it might be and surprisingly hard in places.

The worst bit was my hands (and, to a lesser extent, my feet).

I developed Raynaud’s a year ago and my fingers felt like they were being smacked by hammers.

But, as they kept reminding us, “there’s no growth in comfort”.

The day wasn’t a jolly outing where we pretended to be soldiers (although there was an element of that).

It was about pushing us to the edge of our comfort zone.

To help us make realisations.

Things that we can carry over to our every day lives.

Some of which I’ll continue to share with you this week.

That was my first though.

“There’s no growth in comfort”.

Now, there’s nothing wrong with staying where we are.

If we’re happy with that.

But if we want to make changes, we need to make changes.

If we do what we’ve always done, we’ll get what we’ve always got.

Einstein said “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result”.

This doesn’t mean we need to do something like Break Point, of course.

It was that sweet spot for me.

Enough outside of my comfort zone that it challenged and improved me……….

But not so much that I couldn’t do it.

We all have an equivalent.

Goldilocks.

Not too easy, not too hard.

Never forget that “there’s no growth in comfort”.

We know it’s not easy to take that next step and try out one of our programmes. But we’ve made it as easy as possible. Come down, see what you think and go from there. Trust us, you won’t regret it —> myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting
