Have you read ‘The Critical Path to Corporate Renewal’?

No?

Me neither.

Just scanned the highlights.

But……….

I got a me a useful stat out of it.

Researchers divided all the attempted changes they’d studied into equal thirds.

Most successful, average and least successful.

They pretty much all set goals for the change they were wanting to implement.

89% for the top group down to 86% for the bottom group.

But the top group were far more likely to set ‘behavioural goals’.

89% down to 33%.

Behavioural goals are the specifics of what will actually be done.

The actual actions.

The little steps that all add up.

Eg: We’ll have a meeting every Monday at 11am to review XYZ.

And it’s the same with changes to your body and life.

“Lose some weight” probably won’t get you very far.

“Eat better and join a gym” is a fraction better.

But the following type of ‘behaviour goals’ will always work miles better;

  • Do healthy food shop and make sure workout clothes are ready on Sunday night

  • Exercise at 6pm Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

  • Take 2 litre bottle of water to work each morning and make sure it get’s drunk

  • Take lunch to work rather than relying on what’s available in the canteen / coffee shop.

You get the idea.

It’s kinda obvious.

But unless we actually take the step to set these more concrete behavioural goals, we’re massively reducing our chances of success.

So, give it a go.

Doesn’t have to be the ones above.

Find some specific to you.

Ones that there’s no reason you can’t do consistently.

Write them down.

And go do them 🙂

Much love,
