You ever seen footage from a pair of dressing rooms after a game of some sort?

You know the kind – a big football game has concluded and the cameras visit each team where they get changed.

Usually, one team is full of energy.

Buzzing.

The other is deflated.

Flat.

Depressed.

The funny thing is………..

They’ve both put exactly the same amount of effort in.

For one, that has left them full of energy.

For the other, the opposite.

Because of the ‘result’.

The performance versus target.

The miles run, tackles made and shots taken have become irrelevant.

It’s how it ended up compared to how they expected it to end up that dictates how they feel.

If they both wanted and expected to win, the winners will be energised, the losers deflated.

Premier league champions just scrape past a non-league team in the third round of the cup and the reactions might be the opposite way around.

How we respond (in both body and mind) to exertion (in both body and mind) is down to the outcome………….

Compared to the expectation.

—– It’s why people are often so surprised when they join us. They expect it to be really hard and not much fun. And they actually find it surprisingly enjoyable. Check myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting if you’ve only ever found exercise and healthier eating “not much fun” ——–

Think our day is going to be good and it all goes horribly wrong and we feel flat and down.

Expect it to be bad and it goes better than we thought and we are energised.

Even if the actual effort going into the first situation is lower than in the second.

And, whilst we will still look to improve said ‘performance’……….

Looking at our expectations going in can be key too.

Much love,
