Dutch cycle manufacturer Vanmoof had a problem.
No matter which couriers they used, their bikes were getting damaged in transit.
“Too many of our bikes arrived looking like they’d been through a metal-munching combine harvester” said Creative Director Bex Rad.
They came up with a cunning solution.
They started printing pictures of flatscreen TVs on the boxes.
Damages dropped by 80% overnight.
Genius.
Couple of great ideas.
Firstly, rather than just ‘trying harder’……….
They chose to put a system in place that would help.
Like batch cooking food, online shopping, having good stuff in, etc.
Rather than just ‘trying harder’ not to eat crap.
And they piggybacked an existing habit.
The one of treating TVs with more care than bikes.
Like we can piggyback our existing habits.
Doing X that your struggle with alongside Y you are used to.
Booking your workouts at the same time as you plan your work diary.
Drinking water each time you go to the toilet / printer / kitchen at work.
Packing your workout gear when you do your washing / ironing / work clothes.
Etc, etc, etc.
Create systems and habits and the effort involved in doing what you need to do to get what you want to get…….
Becomes much more manageable 🙂
Much love,
Jon ‘Google Box’ Hall and Matt ‘Bumfuzzler’ Nicholson
P.S. According to google, Matt’s middle name is an actual nickname for a TV.
