Pretty much every time I’m out and about in town, I’ll bump into a number of former and current members.

Depending on how rushed we both are, our interactions will vary between a quick “Hi” and a five minute chat.

Occasionally, I’ll see a former member approaching in the distance………….

And then notice that, when they realise it’s me…………..

They’ll turn the other way.

Or pretend to be checking something in the shop window.

Or quickly “answer” their phone and turn the other way as I pass.

It dawned on me the other day that this is exactly what I do with our dog trainer when I see him in the park.

If I think he hasn’t seen me, I’ll avoid him.

Despite getting there, our dog’s behaviour is nowhere near as good as it is when the trainer is interacting with her.

We haven’t made the progress I fully intended to since our last lesson.

I set out with all these great intentions.

And then don’t do it (enough).

I’m embarrassed.

I don’t dislike the dog trainer in the slightest.

And I’d like to think no former members dislikes me.

I get it.

I really do.

Most FitPros have little empathy for their clients (current or former).

Make little effort to put themselves in other’s shoes.

Being in shape has always come easy to them and they can’t see why others “don’t just do what they say they will”.

We all have different things we find easier or harder to do.

Different things that we’ll benefit from getting help with.

We’ve got two lessons left on our paid for block.

I know they’ll improve her behaviour and our enjoyment of her.

But it’s easier to “leave it for now”.

Wait for “when the time’s a bit better”.

But that’ll never come.

The stars never align.

I’ve just texted him now.

Set up our next lesson.

I’ll be a bit embarrassed when we turn up.

But he’ll be cool.

And it’ll all help lead to the result that I want!

If you’re a former / current but somewhat inactive / prospective member who’s feeling the same way……….

Then pop to www.myrise.co.uk/apply / jump on the app and book your next Session / pop to www.myrise.co.uk/apply

I get how you feel.

But we all know that doing the equivalent of me not training the dog enough and avoiding the dog trainer isn’t the answer!

Much love,

Jon ‘Turn around bright eyes’ Hall
