I’m sure anyone who’s ever been involved in recruiting someone to fill a position will have come across this.

Candidate is perfect in the interview.

Says all the right things.

Looks like they’ll be ideal for the role.

Starts off great.

Then seem to change after a few weeks.

And it doesn’t work out.

The problem, of course, arises as people ‘know what to say’ in interviews.

They know the sort of answers that are wanted and will give them the best chance of getting the job.

Even if those answers aren’t how they really feel.

Then they start the position behaving as they feel they should.

But inevitably, over time everyone’s behaviour MATCHES THE SELF IMAGE THEY HAVE OF THEMSELVES!

And that’s what happens for many people when they start a new way of getting in shape.

Whether it be gym, slimming club, diet, meal replacement shake thingy, etc.

Their self image dooms them to long term failure.

They see themselves as any or all of the following:

“Someone with a bad metabolism”

“Someone who always fails at things like this”

“Someone who struggles to keep the weight off”

“Someone who must have something wrong with them”

“Someone who likes their food too much”

“Someone who has it harder than most, with work, the kids, etc”

And those self images mean that when the going gets harder, and the motivation wanes, they revert to that self image and the actions that go with it.

One of the main reasons some people seem to find it easier………

Is their self image is of someone who just does those things.

They see themselves as:

“Someone who eats healthily most of the time”

“Someone who deserves to be in shape”

“Someone who doesn’t necessarily love exercise, but has realised its worth it for the benefits”

“Someone who accepts that there are plenty of ‘tasty’ ‘foods’ that they’ll have to minimise for the rest of their lives”

So, even after a bit of a set back…….

A bad weekend……..

A boozy holiday…….

They return to the behaviours in line with their self image.

So, what do you do?

Change your self image.

It’s forced of course.

But over time it becomes natural.

And the more you do it and the more it works, the more you’ll really believe.

And so on.

Try it now.

Imagine the person you would need to be to get what you want.

Tell yourself you are that person.

Keep telling yourself every day until you believe it.

It will happen over time.

Trust us 🙂
