You may have seen the Facebook advert we have running at the moment based of the opening credits of the TV programme Cheers.

“Where everybody knows your name……… And they’re always glad you came”

I’m rather pleased with it.

Got lots of lovely comments on it from members.

And various questions and comments from people who are interested in what we do or who feel the need to say something about it.

It got one the other day:

“A video trying to attract people to go to the gym with music made famous by a programme about going to the pub lol”

Which, yeah, is kinda the point.

Drawing a comparison to the sense of belonging, camaraderie and comfort felt at a good pub and at RISE.

But what the comment really showed to me is the general belief that things like pubs and things like what we do are, somehow, mutually exclusive.

That you can’t go to the pub if you go to the “gym”.

That if you look after yourself and your body, you do that at the expense of any fun and enjoyment in life.

That we are soulless creates who live on a diet of chicken, broccoli and burpees.

I may have exaggerated the intent of the comment author there…………

But that general thought process is prevalent in our society.

And, from our experience, it’s the opposite to reality.

Most people who come to us are somewhere between “somewhat disgruntled” and “f-ing miserable” when they get here.

Not with all aspects of their lives, of course.

But with some.

And the changes they make here lead them to being, overall, happier.

To being able to do more fun stuff, not less.

They find a way of living their life that can still involve going to the pub………..

But has so much more in it as well.

Because, nice as the pub is, it’s only one of many fun things we can do.

And, I would argue, if it (home drinking is also available) is the only thing someone enjoys, they’re probably not as happy as they make out.

You get the point.

Worth questioning if you don’t currently believe it.

A little reminder if you already do.

The “gym” and the pub aren’t mutually exclusive (check myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting out if you’d like to try a way of life that can include both).

Healthy living doesn’t get in the way of fun – it creates and amplifies it!

Much love,
