Yesterday’s P.S. mentioned that “Tomorrow’s blog will be the last one”.
Now, I must admit, I wrote that one and this one before the time you’ll be reading it.
But I assume there was a mass outpouring of hysteria similar to when Robbie left Take That.
People crying in the streets, support hotlines being set up and so on.
Well, you can stop worrying.
“Panic over” (as I sometimes announce to my family on my return to the house……. to less and less positive responses as the years pass).
What this actually is going to be is the “last blog” on my ‘Blogs – ideas’ list.
Actually, I’ve lied again.
Tomorrow’s is going to be that particular blog.
Today’s is going to be an explanation of my blog writing system.
And a parallel for you.
You see, I’ve published a blog for over 2,500 days in a row now.
I wouldn’t have got this far if I’d just sat down each morning and thought “what shall I write about?”.
And done each one from scratch, including proof reading, formatting, scheduling on the site, email system and social media, recording the podcast audio, etc.
I put ideas into my notes system under the ‘Blogs – ideas’ label all the time as they come to me.
Move them into ‘Blogs – in progress’ as I flesh them out.
Then ‘Blogs – completed’ when they’re done other than the proof reading, adding links and my middle name and so on.
Then ‘Blogs – ready to go’ when they just need publishing, scheduling, etc.
It’s a system that works.
For me.
And we all have systems for doing something.
When we tell ourselves we don’t, we just have a pretty ill-defined system.
Which is fine.
Until it isn’t.
If we’re happy with the results of that way of doing things, that’s cool.
If we’re not, a more defined and structured approach will usually help.
We’re sometimes reluctant to do that.
Telling ourselves we like to be “free” and “go with the flow”.
All the time creating a life, body and energy levels that restrict us ever more.
That perceived freedom short term creating the exact opposite long term.
Structure, planning and systems around how we eat and exercise sounds boring.
It is boring.
But the results it creates and the life it affords us is anything but.
If your approaches to exercise and eating are giving you results that you’re happy with, then crack on.
If they’re not, then more structure around that will probably be worth it (and we’ll help with that – find out how via www.myrise.co.uk/apply) .
Much love,
Jon ‘I’m about to scroll to the bottom of the ‘Blogs – ideas’ section and pick the “last blog” from the 1,113 there (you could argue it’s the “first blog” as it’s been on there the longest. I hope it’s a good one’ Hall
