While we’re on the subject of Christmassy stuff (yesterday), did you catch Gavin and Stacey on Christmas Day?
I’ve never seen it before but my wife used to watch it and I enjoyed it nonetheless.
Christmas is a time where classic shows and characters make a special appearance.
I’ll always fondly remember the last few Only Fools and Horses Christmas specials.
The 1996 ones especially.
Batman and Robin.
And Del and Rodney finally become millionaires.
After 15 years of trying (and more within the story-line).
Del’s classic line the closing of many a show:
“This time next year Rodney, we’ll be millionaires.”
Didn’t give up did they?
Didn’t stop trying because it wasn’t happening.
Didn’t decide that as they didn’t have what they wanted yet, they might as well go to the opposite end of the spectrum and stop earning any money at all.
Because that never gets us where we want, does it?
There’s always trials and tribulations along the way.
Things we thought were a ‘dead cert’ don’t quite work out.
We realise we’re no closer after months of trying.
It can be frustrating.
We get that.
But, even if we never quite achieve the final goal (millions of pounds or the body we want)…………..
We’ll always be better off by keeping going.
Stopping completely is never the answer.
Tempting as it might be.
I can’t guarantee that “this time next year, you’ll have the body of your dreams”.
But I can guarantee one thing.
“This time next year, you’ll be much better off by slowing down and speeding up as circumstances dictate than you will be by stopping completely.”
Much love,
Jon ’17 new heads and 14 new handles’ Hall and Matt ‘Mange tout’ Nicholson
