In yesterday’s blog, I talked about how we could choose to change the way that we see the behaviours of others.

To make it less about us and more about them.

To approach life with a level of empathy and understanding that can help us actually make the changes that we desire.

And I mentioned that there is a way of considering our approach to life in four levels of consciousness.

I’ve already given you them in the blog title.

None are hard and fast positions that we’re always in.

We might see different aspects of our life in different ways.

Maybe feeling in full control of our career without the mercy of our bodies, “metabolism” and “genetics”.

Or vice versa.

Or any other areas of our life.

And we might change what level we’re at over time and dependant on factors such as mood and energy levels.

But, I hope you agree, it’s food for thought.

To me

Some say that this is where 70% of the population spend the majority of their time.

Life happens “to them”.

Their situation is the result of their upbringing, their genetics, their boss, their other half, the government or any other external factors that they don’t feel they have control over.

By me

We accept responsibility for our own actions and the results that they bring about.

We’re willing to do the work to make changes and achieve results.

But it can feel an effort and a grind.

“I’m going to change this no matter how hard I have to work”

Through me

We still do what needs to be done to achieve the results that we want.

But we, perhaps, “hold on” to it all less.

This is generally where I feel I am or try to be.

There’s a lot of stuff that needs to happen, much of it that I need to do, to create and maintain the life that I want for me and others in my life.

But I choose not to let it ‘weigh me down’.

I’m a conduit through which various things flow to make things happen – energy, effort, money, etc.

They can flow without “leaving a mark”.

For me

We can choose to see everything that happens as a gift.

An opportunity.

We can look for the benefits in everything.

Because they’re there more often than we realise.

We just often don’t know to look.

Or aren’t willing to see them because we feel the negative aspects are bigger or more important (maybe they are, but that doesn’t mean there’s not another side).

As I’m writing this, I’m looking up through a skylight in my house at some guttering that we’ve had problems with for months.

That’s caused excess rainwater to flow into the house at various points, creating marks on ceilings and walls.

Up until now, I’ve just mainly been annoyed by this.

But I’ve now decided to use this as a gift.

To see it as an opportunity to improve my ability to pre-empt things that might need to be done to the house.

And to deal with issues much quicker.

I could carry on getting frustrated each time something needs doing to the house.

But, as with any house, it’s going to keep happening.

I’m choosing now to use this as an opportunity to grow.

As with all concepts, I know this will get a mixed response.

If I’d have read this a decade ago, I’d have probably put it down as “wishy-washy nonsense”.

But why not “try it on for size”?

Look at situations in your life and consider how you could move through those “levels of consciousness” in how you view them.

To me – By me – Through me – For me

Try considering them from the “next level”.

You might decide after a while that you’re happy going back to your old viewpoint.

But what’s the harm in trying?

Much love,
