For 20+ years I’ve had the same conversation with people.

About how they can start seeing better progress.

How they can be losing weight, getting fitter or any other change that they’d like to make.

And whilst I’m a big fan of working smarter……..

Simple changes that give you a big return rather than lots of little things that don’t add up too much………

Sometimes part of the answer is just “working harder”.

Which isn’t always an easy thing to hear.

Because it’s tempting to think that we’re working as hard as we can.

But it’s powerful to remember that none of us are.

Ever.

Myself included.

And working “as hard as we can” is neither realistic nor needed.

But recalibrating where we are can be powerful.

Sometimes people ask me “Why am I not getting as strong (or toned) as I thought I would from these workouts?”

And I’ll explain that we need to “up the intensity”.

Harder versions, more reps, essentially ‘harder work’.

“I’m working as hard as I can in Sessions” is a common reply.

To which I’ll explain that “No one ever works at 100%”.

Ridiculous as it sounds… if someone’s life depended on it, you’d find another gear.

And you can see the penny drop.

If you could have done more… then it wasn’t 100%.

And that’s absolutely fine.

It doesn’t need to be.

But if that calibration reset makes us realise that we’re actually working at, say 75%……….

Then maybe we could work at 82%.

Closing that gap a little will drive better results=.

Not completely closing the gap.

Because that’s impossible.

Just recognising that there is a gap for everyone and that we can narrow it for improved results.

A little more effort goes a long way.

Much love,

Jon ‘Boat’ Hall
