Had someone PM us t’other day.
Asking for our opinion on a workout option they were looking at.
“Twice as long, twice as intense” it described itself.
“That makes no sense” we replied.
You can’t go more intense AND for longer.
Unless you were taking it easy in the first place of course.
If you’re already working at a maximal intensity then doing it for longer will mean you have to lower the intensity.
Otherwise marathon runners would be doing faster than their sprint speed all the way round.
Makes-a-no-sense.
That’s why our sessions are designed to be the length they are.
If the intensity is right, then that’s an optimal length for body composition changes.
You know, losing body fat, improving tone and appearance and so on.
If someone feels at the end of a session they could have done more, they need to work harder next time.
Taking it easy for longer isn’t the answer.
Different goals will require different intensities and duration, sure.
If you’re looking to improve stamina and conditioning then lower intensity for longer is the answer.
For strength, shorter, higher intensity sessions are the answer.
If you want what we’re famous for, what we do is right – just up the intensity if not.
Much love,
Jon ‘Like my exercise like I like my women – short and intense’ Hall and Matt ‘Jon is joking Alex – you are neither short nor intense. Please don’t hurt him!’ Nicholson
