Tim Ferriss (“American author, entrepreneur, self-proclaimed “human guinea pig”, and public speaker according his Wikipedia page) often tells the story of something he once read that helps him with his writing.
It was from a seemingly never named author of over 70 novels.
When asked how he can write so much, so consistently, he replied “Two hundred crappy words per day, that’s it.”
Tim’s own version is “My quota for writing is two crappy pages a day.”
It’s about getting started.
Doing something.
Usually, that something will turn into more.
Not always.
But if the target was to “write 1,000 brilliant words every day”………..
There’s a good chance nothing would happen.
And it’s the same with what we all do and our goals.
Just start by doing something.
Whether that’s one healthy food shop.
One batch cook.
One prepping tomorrow’s lunch ahead of time.
One workout.
One attempt at meditation for a few minutes.
Anything.
And once you’ve done it once, do it again.
Aiming for that minimum amount there’s really no reason you can’t do.
Your “two hundred crappy words per day”.
And, sometimes, you’ll overachieve on that.
Sometimes you won’t.
But over time, that will lead to your ’70 books’ 🙂
Much love,
Jon ‘Worm’ Hall and Matt ‘End’ Nicholson
