When I speak to people who are asking about what I do and I ask….
“What’s your biggest struggle doing this by yourself?”….
Motivation (or a lack it) comes up at least 80% of the time.
Which I get.
When you do what we do, people assume you have endless motivation springing from a tap.
“I’m not as motivated as you” I’ve heard countless times.
Or “Don’t you ever not feel like it?”
The reality is this:
First – results come from actions, not motivation.
If you do the thing unmotivated, it’s just as effective as doing it motivated.
The body responds to the exercise and what we put in our mouths, not how we feel about doing that.
Motivation is a “nice to have”, at best.
And, secondly….
Motivation is an “after emotion”.
If it’s going to come, it’ll come from the doing.
If we sit at home waiting to feel motivated to do something……….
We’ll be waiting for a very long time.
If we do it unmotivated………..
There’s a pretty good chance motivation to do it will grow.
The best way to feel motivated to exercise regularly?
The best way to feel motivated to eat better?
Eat better.
The best way to feel motivated to get more sleep?
Get more sleep.
The best way to feel motivated to drink less?
Drink less.
The best way to feel motivated to spend less time on screens?
Spend less time on screens.
The best way to feel motivated to meditate?
Meditate.
I can’t guarantee motivation will automatically come if you do the thing you’re unmotivated to do.
But, if experience (over 24 years in this game) has taught me one thing…………
It’s much more likely (and the results will come either way)!
Action first. Motivation follows.
Much love,
