We all know that weight loss ultimately boils down to calories in vs. calories out.

We know this because every well meaning smart arse likes to point it out when there’s any talk of anything to do with weight loss that isn’t about calories.

We’ll talk about the roles that things like hormones, gut health, stress, sleep, etc all play in losing weight……….

And there’ll be at least one wannabe Newton pointing out that “You can’t create or destroy energy”.

And that “It’s simple science. If you burn off more calories than you consume, you will have to lose weight”.

No shit, Sherlock!

We know this.

We, also know, that in practice, things can be a little more tricky.

That when you are powered by sugar and caffeine, not sleeping well and permanently stressed……..

That the body is a bit more ‘reluctant’ to release fat stores……..

And that the will power required to force yourself to eat less and move more when you really don’t feel like it………

Is too much to maintain long term.

And that if you address these things then the whole calorie side of things becomes much, much easier to address.

And often kinda takes care of itself somewhat.

Weight loss can be a complicated equation.

Individual to each person.

It’s a bit like unravelling a ball of wool.

You know that, in theory, it’s relatively simple.

But, in practice, not so much.

You can’t always tell if what you’re doing is helping or making the problem worse.

And it wouldn’t be much help if someone siddled over and said “You know the wool is ravelled up? If you just unravel it, you’ll be ok”

“I’m trying Captain Obvious” would be an understandable reply.

Or something stronger.

The key to successful weight loss is, ultimately, finding a way you can maintain that long term calorie deficit.

And if you haven’t yet done things to address challenges with sleep and stress………

If you’re eating an unbalanced diet of processed foods……….

Loads of caffeine and not much water………

And you’re struggling to maintain that calorie deficit through willpower alone……..

Then there’s a few things to start looking at 🙂

Much love,
