I’m writing this blog on a train from Milton Keynes to Birmingham International.
I shouldn’t be on this train.
My eldest two sons and I should be at the Commonwealth Games right now.
But we got on the wrong train at Macc.
It was the right platform at the right time so we just got on.
Really should’ve checked the departure board as it was clearly a delayed train.
I realized after we’d already left Stoke when it said “Next stop Milton Keynes”.
Whoops!
So, we got to Milton Keynes, waited for the next train up to Birmingham and we’re on that now.
We’ll miss the first quarter or so of what we’re going to.
Not ideal.
But not the end of the world.
Son 2 is fairly full of pre-teen hormones nowadays and was rather angry about the whole thing for a while.
He’s ok now.
I explained to him that it’s a useful skill in life to make the best of things when they don’t go as planned.
Whether it’s your fault or someone else’s.
When it is your fault, to immediately accept full responsibility, learn from it, reduce the chance of it happening again and do what you still can at that point.
I say “skill”, because that’s what it is.
It’s human nature to get frustrated with unmet expectations.
And sometimes that has its place and we can channel that frustration.
But, most of the time, from my experience at least, allowing what’s happened to negatively affect our mood doesn’t benefit us or those around you.
We have two choices right now;
1. Still get to what’s left of our Session in a good mood and enjoy it
2. Still get to what’s left of our Session in a bad mood and enjoy it less
I know which I’d prefer.
And, like all skills, it gets easier with practice.
Every day of our life we will be hit with unmet expectations.
We can fight with it and allow it to negatively affect how we experience life.
Or we can do a combination of questioning our expectations, how realistic they were and if they were communicated to and agreed by the relevant people………
And roll with the punches, learn from our mistakes and still get the enjoyment out of things that we can.
Much love,

P.S. If the results you’ve gotten from joining standard gyms in the past hasn’t met your expectations (like it hasn’t for most), then here’s where you’ll find actual results and lasting change –> www.myrise.co.uk/apply
