Do you know what I read the other day that surprised me?
That it wasn’t until the 1940s that cleaning our teeth became a fully widespread practice.
Sure, there’s evidence that some were brushing their teeth in 3,000 BC.
And the modern toothbrush idea, design and recommendations started in in the late 1700s.
But only when the soldiers returned from WWII and continued brushing their teeth, as had been required in the Army, did it become something everyone did in all of the Western World.
Crazy, heh?
But, that’s what’s happened with everything we now consider to be normal.
Once upon a time, it wasn’t.
Then, at some point, it became what everyone does.
And more changes will come.
Exercise has already gone that way.
Only a few decades ago people laughed at those that ‘worked out’.
Now most do.
Or, if they don’t, feel they probably should.
We’re so used to having cereal or toast or bacon and egg for breakfast………
That when people are often shocked when we suggest other stuff.
You can have anything you like for breakfast.
Meat, veg, fruit, nuts, etc.
Breakfast doesn’t need to be this fundamentally ‘different’ meal.
We generally find that the more someone’s breakfast looks like their tea, the better they do.
Heck, it can just be left over tea.
I reckon in 30 years time people will be surprised that people ever thought bowls full of sugar (what most cereals essentially are, or turn into once consumed) for the first meal of the day was a good idea.
Same with meditation.
Still considered a bit ‘wacky’ by some.
It’s becoming more and more ‘normal’.
I reckon not doing it will raise eyebrows in years to come.
Ultimately, do what you want.
Tis your life.
Follow our advice…….
Or do your own thing.
But don’t feel the need to do something (or not) because that’s what everyone else does (or doesn’t).
In a world which is getting fatter and sicker year on year……… (check myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting if you don’t want that to be you anymore).
And in a world which changes what’s normal every few decades………..
Just do what you think is right for you 🙂
Much love,
Jon ‘Missing 6 teeth’ Hall and Matt ‘Hangover’ Nicholson
