Monday last week marked what is often called Candlemas (I was going to do this blog then but forgot).
Or, potentially, Imbolc, Li Chu’un or Badger Day depending on where you’re from (Google tells me).
Officially halfway through winter.
Winter having officially begun on December 21st.
The shortest day of the year.
I only realised a few years ago that the days only get longer in winter.
And that they only get shorter in summer (Summer officially starting on the longest day of the year).
Counterintuitive isn’t it?
If I asked if the days got longer or shorter in winter, I think most people would say shorter.
Or maybe, at best, 50/50.
Seems obvious surely?
But things that seem obvious aren’t always the case.
It’s very easy to assume something that’s actually provably untrue.
Or, at least, we haven’t really tested enough.
It’s easy to assume that we’re not losing weight even though we’re in a calorie deficit when, in reality, everyone who’s ever been tested in super precise, controlled environments has lost weight when in a deficit.
It’s easy to assume that we’re “too busy” to do something when we have, at best, a loose measurement of where we’re currently assigning that finite resource of time.
I’ve never known someone to accurately track their usage of time for a number of days who was unable to find some they could reassign (www.myrise.co.uk/time for help with how to do that).
It’s easy to assume that something isn’t for us when we’ve barely tried it.
Or that we’re not very good at something when we’ve barely practised it.
Assumptions.
As they’re saying goes “make an @ss out of U and Me”.
Much love,
Jon ‘Living on a prayer’ Hall
P.S. All of this means we’re getting closer and closer to summer. If what you’ve been doing this year isn’t getting your closer to a summer body you’ll be happy with (and it hasn’t for the vast majority) then that will changes here –> www.myrise.co.uk/apply
