As I mentioned in yesterday’s blog, I’ve gained a bit of extra body fat over the last few years.
And, I’ll be honest, part of that is down to a reduction in what we could call “motivation”.
I’ve ‘not felt like it’ more than usual.
Part of that has been my injuries / pain level and some other factors.
And I was thinking about this whilst writing yesterday’s blog.
About “motivation”.
And the expression that “motivation is a fickle mistress” popped into my mind.
And it kind of clicked on a different level to before.
The “mistress” part particularly.
And the difference between a “mistress” and a “wife”.
Whilst I have no intention of finding out, I assume part of some people’s attraction to having a mistress is the excitement.
It’s the novelness.
The enthusiasm that might be created.
But, at least in my opinion, the deeper more meaningful things that come with a good marriage are much better.
And maybe we can choose to see exercising the same way.
A long-term, committed, mutually beneficial relationship that we’re choosing to enter into and maintain.
It doesn’t need to be exciting and motivating all the time.
Maybe they’re are good patches and bad patches.
It’s not always easy.
But we stick with it because it’s worthwhile.
And it gives back so much more.
Much love,
Jon ‘What’s the opposite of a mistress?’ Hall
P.S. We didn’t get the win at last night’s National Fitness Awards. But…… four time Top 6 in the UK for a small facility in a small town is pretty epic if you ask me!
P.P.S. Want to find out why we keep getting recongised at the highest level? And how we produce such great results for people who don’t like gyms?
