So far this week we’ve covered setting a process goal at the minimum level you can definitely achieve and then, on occasion, over achieving on that.
Until, over time, you get to your outcome goal.
We know that life doesn’t always work out that way though.
That sometimes for various reasons, we won’t hit our process goals.
We won’t do that workout or healthy food shop or number of good food choices.
It may be circumstance.
Things getting in the way.
Sometimes there is just no other explanation than we “couldn’t be bothered”.
We know this as we’ve been there many a time.
Whatever the reason for not hitting a process goal, the important thing is what happens next.
We have two choices:
1. Decide to ‘write off’ the rest of the day, weekend, week, month, etc. Returning to old habits only to ‘start again’ at some point in the future.
2. Realise that past decisions need have no affect on the future ones. That ‘writing things’ off makes no sense. Just forget what has happened. Maybe learn from it for next time it comes up. But don’t let it affect the next choice in front of you.
When we realise that the ‘write off’ makes no sense, it is empowering.
We wouldn’t prang our car then decide to drive it into a wall to finish it off.
We wouldn’t scratch our watch then jump up and down on it.
We wouldn’t lose a fiver then burn the rest of the money in our wallet.
The ‘write off’ is a justification for future decisions.
But we don’t need to justify our decisions.
Want to eat crap and not workout?
Then eat crap and not workout.
Tis your choice.
No one else’s.
But when we’ve removed that ‘write off’ justification and just make each choice as it comes to us…………
Chances are we’ll make more choices that will take us in the direction we want to go in
Much love,
Jon ‘Wrong on’ Hall
