Have you ever felt that you have to do lots of stuff?

I’m sure we all have.

Some days can seem like a never ending list of things we have to do.

Some weeks too.

Months and years also.

I get it

But I’ve got a subtle reframe for you that can massively help how we see a lot of what we “have to do”.

If we swap out the words “have to” to “get to”.

With a possible tweak to the way we describe the thing afterwards.

It can make a massive difference to how we feel about our lives.

“I have to do the ironing” becomes “I get to provide my family with nice smart clothes”.

“I have to pay tax” becomes “I get to live in a world with good roads, schools, and hospitals and that’s generally pretty safe”.

“I have to go to work” becomes “I get to have enough money to fund my life”.

“I have to get the car fixed” becomes “I get to have transport to go to the places I want to go to”.

“I have to cook tea” becomes “I get to have a nice, enjoyable, nourishing meal for me and my family”.

“I have to go on a diet” becomes “I get to eat in a way that increases my energy and changes the way my body looks and feels to something I like more”.

“I have to go and exercise” becomes “I get to go somewhere fun, see people I enjoy spending time with and do something that immediately increases my energy and mood and has massive long-term benefits”.

Every positive has a negative.

Every upside has a downside.

If we can’t choose to see the positive situation, it will only ever be emotional baggage that will hold us back.

If we reframe our “have to”s to “get to”s, life becomes a very different ball game.

Just try it.

Much love,
