In the last few blogs I’ve talked about some of what I consider to be “better” questions that I might ask people.

So I thought I would share a few examples over the next few blogs.

Questions that might help you see things in a different way.

They also might not.

No right or wrong here.

Just exploring some different ways to look at things.

——————-

Have you ever thought “This isn’t working”?

I’m sure we all have many times about different things.

It’s something that’s been expressed to me countless times over the last two decades with regards to people’s attempts to make changes to their health and fitness.

A question that I might ask in response is “What’s not working?”

Seems kind of an obvious one to answer, doesn’t it?

But answers normally only amount to the likes of “This”.

Or “All of it”.

Pretty vague really.

If our boss asked us about how things were going at work and we replied like that I don’t think they’d stand for it as an answer.

A better answer to “What’s not working?” would be more specific.

A comparison of what we intended to do and what’s actually happened.

And, from my experience, a well structured response to “What’s not working” would usually highlight;

– Vague plan at best

– Overly optimistic intentions

– Some degree of “all or nothing” thinking around it

We set out with some vague intention of making wholesale changes to our eating and to exercise an awful lot more than we have been.

And when we don’t feel we can do that, we’re tempted to “leave it” until we feel we can.

A more realistic plan………

With specific details……..

With things planned and scheduled……..

With the buy-in of those that affect it gained……..

Doesn’t mean it will automatically happen.

But it does make it much more likely.

And, if it doesn’t, we have for something to work off.

We can look at how we can adjust the plan accordingly.

We have a more useful answer to “What’s not working?” than “All of it”.

Much love,
