As an industry, ours must be the least successful there is.

People come and see us, pay money for a result and very few get that result.

Research suggests that something like 5 to 10% of people who join a gym, get a Personal Trainer, etc……..

Achieve lasting results.

The reasons for that are manifold.

It does, of course, boil down to the choices the customer makes have started something.

And most in our industry will place the blame entirely on said customer.

As “if they did it, it would work.”

True of course.

But if people are not managing to “do it” 90 to 95% of the time there is, perhaps, something not quite right with what ‘it’ is.

Where most FitPros go wrong, in my humble opinion, is to be too ‘optimal’.

They study to find the very best ways to eat and exercise for the very best results.

As they should.

We do.

And they get super excited about giving out this brilliant advise.

And recommend an amount of things to do that the person they are talking to, rightly or wrongly, feels is beyond them.

And possibly doesn’t even try to do.

Or, more usually, tries and feels like they are constantly failing.

And that they “can’t do it.”

And, over time, kinda drop off even trying.

We’ve been guilty of this in the past.

I remember 23 year old me talking to my clients about all these things I’d learned.

Even 30 odd year old me.

Recommending they filter their tap water, train several times a week, perform all these complicated lifts, avoid eating at certain times of day and much more.

All of these things would’ve been beneficial, sure.

But the 40 year old mum of 3 with a busy job and stress coming out of her ears just saw this as another thing she couldn’t do.

And I see this all the time now.

And way worse than I ever was.

People being given massive lists of things to do.

When there’s probably 2 or 3 things they could start with and build from there.

There is a continuum.

It starts with the very worst things you can do for your health.

Let’s say something like only eat sugar and lard, drink only caffeine and alcohol, don’t exercise, don’t sleep and, maybe, pop some heroin on top.

And moves all the way along to want a pro athletes might do.

You’re probably about 50 to 80% of the way along this continuum.

Give or take.

If you’re not happy with your results, we need to figure out what we can do that will move you a little more to the right, that you think is doable and maintainable.

That will move you from 50 to 60%.

Or 75 to 80.

100% isn’t the target.

I’ve tried it and it’s bloody hard work.

But we can all move a bit to the right.

No matter how complicated and busy our lives are.

If you know how you can make that move, maybe take this as the nudge to do so.

If you’re not sure, ask us?

Much love,
