I mentioned yesterday that different behaviours make us feel better.

Some short term.

Some longer term.

It’s a different kinda “feeling better” though.

Gratification.

Satisfaction.

“pleasure, especially when gained from the indulgence of a desire”

“fulfilment of one’s wishes, expectations, or needs, or the pleasure derived from this”

Gratification is temporary.

It’s a removal of that desire.

The filling of a “hole”.

Once that “itch has been scratched” the pleasure is gone.

Satisfaction lasts.

It’s that continued fulfilment.

Often from something that was harder to start with.

That had more of a short term downside than other options.

Time, cost, effort, energy, lost opportunity.

But brings a greater long term benefit and pleasure.

Both are great.

Both have their place.

A life with just one isn’t a life that anyone wants to live.

As I said yesterday, balance is key (check www.myrise.co.uk/apply if your balance isn’t quite there) .

Too much of one and not enough of the other leaves us ‘out of whack’.

And knowing the difference is that crucial first step.

Knowing whether a choice will bring us gratification or satisfaction may affect our choice.

And may just help us address that balance.

Much love,
