So, yesterday, we explained how, when done correctly, medium fast weight loss followed by maintenance out performs slower weight loss in every way long term for most people.
Using studies and stuff.
Note again the “followed by maintenance” – we’re not talking about crash diets and back to old habits.
Today we’re going to look at what the research suggests about who such approaches are best for.
It shows that this approach works best, on average for:
“Those with high body fat”
“Those motivated by early successes”
“Those without immediate performance goal (ie: you’re not competing in anything important soon)”
“Those with a strategy of how to transition to maintenance eating and good habits after the phase”
And……….
“Those who prefer shorter, but bigger changes”
That’s a big one.
Many people just prefer the idea of just a number of months of something a bit more challenging………..
Over years and years of something a bit less challenging.
Any time you’re not in a maintenance phase there’s an element of ‘challenge’ to it.
And we struggle with the idea of that going on for ages.
It’s like ripping off a plaster.
More intense
But over quicker.
That’s our human psychology.
No point working against it, is there?

Ultimately, we find the best approach is a speed of progress that the person is happy with.
If they’re losing more slowly but are genuinely happy and will stick with it, that’s awesome.
If faster progress into slower progress or maintenance floats their boat, who are we to argue?
We’ve seen FitPros recommend “eating more” to stoke some sort of imaginary metabolic fire when the person was more than happy with how much they were having.
Ultimately, you know your brain way better than we do.
If you can see you maintaining an approach either indefinitely or for a sufficient amount of time and then moving into a slower approach or maintenance…………
Then go for it!
## If you haven’t found that approach yet, this might be it –> myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting ##
If you feel it’s something you’ll completely stop at some point…………
And go back to old habits…………
Then it’s probably not the best for you.
Pretty much as simple as that 🙂

P.S. 2 points for those middle names. With the correct spelling of the connecting word 😉
