People often ask us at RISE who our competition is.
By which they, of course, mean who is competing for the same customers as us.
Our usual reply is that our only competition is ourselves.
Others in the fitness field are all trying to do the same as us – help people make the change they want to.
We’re not competing with them, but with ourselves.
In our never ending quest to make what we do ever more awesome 😉
We’re only interested in putting out the best possible service – so that those that like what we do will absolutely love it.
If something else is a better fit for someone, for whatever reason, then that’s cool – we want the best for them.
In the same way, we’ve worked hard to create an environment where our members aren’t in competition with each other – just themselves.
It’s never about comparing yourself to the person next to you in a session.
Just to how you were doing last week.
Or 6 months ago.
Everyone is on the same journey.
Together.
Just some people are further along the road than others.
Comparing yourself to others is a sure fire way to unhappiness.
There’ll always be someone who’s ‘better’ than you or me in some way.
Even the best at one thing will compare themselves to others in some ways and feel they are coming up short.
And we often only see those things that they seem to be ‘better’ than us at and not the rest of their life.
Some wise dude (google tells me it was Steve Furtick, a New York Times Best Selling Author who was born the day after me funnily enough) once said “The reason we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind-the-scenes with everyone else’s highlight reel.”
Others lives are rarely as perfect or exciting as they may seem.
The only fair comparison we can make for how we’re doing is to compare how we’re doing now, versus how we were doing last week or last month and check we’re going onwards and upwards.
Even if it’s two steps forward, one step back – we’re still going forwards.
Much love,
