💡💡💡 If you’re a frustrated yo-yo dieter and gym disliker who would like to lose 10 to 20lbs in 8 weeks while developing lasting healthy habits without having to do boring exercise you hate and give up food you love (with a money back guarantee), then you can apply for a place on the programme at www.myrise.co.uk/apply 💡💡💡

It’s 6.30am on Saturday 6th November.

I’m sat on the sofa writing this blog.

Our youngest has just come and got in bed with us.

He usually does this at quarter to two.

You can set your alarm by him.

Although him coming in at 1.45am is bad enough – an alarm would make it even worse.

I’d usually go and get in his bed but step daughter is in there as brother and sister in law and their three sons stayed over last night and are in her room.

When Charlie wakes me up, I nearly always need the toilet.

Walking across the landing just well and truly woke me up.

As my feet are really dry and cracked.

This and the options of squeezing in or going on the Z-Bed he was on have made me just decide to come downstairs.

And the first thing I’ve done is order some new heal balm on Amazon (other delivery options are available).

I never had a problem with my feet until a few years ago.

At one point they got really bad – large cracks in the crease of my big toes which were surprisingly painful.

Until I started using this foot balm.

Which soon sorted it out.

As has happened a few times now, I run out of the balm.

And keep meaning to replace it.

Only getting round to it when I get to a certain level of pain.

Or I’ve stopped using it.

When it’s been feeling better.

Not consciously really.

Just not really been reminded of the need for it by that pain.

And only started again when it’s got back to that pain level.

Because, that’s what we sometimes do.

Find ourselves in pain.

Do what we need to do get far enough away from that level of pain for it to be “OK”.

Stop.

And only start again when we slide back into enough pain.

Our body and health is no different.

We decide “it’s time to do something about this”.

We’ve found that we’ve got to a certain size, weight, way of feeling…….

We start exercising and / or eating better……..

Change size, lose weight and / or feel better……..

To a sufficient degree at least………

And we stop.

Slide back.

Start again.

Rinse and repeat.

Ring any bells?

All caused (or, at least, underpinned) by how we frame what we’re doing.

If we only ever see what we’re doing as a method of “moving away from pain”………..

Then we’ll only ever do it till we’re sufficiently out of pain.

That pain level is our reminder to do something.

If we choose to reframe it as moving towards pleasure (or both)…………

It can be a different ball game.

We like what’s happening.

And want even more.

More energy.

Even better mood.

More ability to do things we might have struggled with before.

If you’re in a “move away from pain” mindset, then you’ll probably, subconsciously, be comparing the perceived sacrifices you’re making with the level of pain you’re in.

Time, effort, money, restrictions of choices, etc.

And there comes a point where those perceived sacrifices are no longer worth it because we’re not in enough pain to justify them.

Start (or add in, at least) moving towards pleasure and it’ll always be worth it 🙂

Much love,

Jon ‘I’m finishing editing this on Monday 8th after just two applications of foot balm and it feels considerably better’ Hall

P.S. If you want to start moving away from pain AND moving towards pleasure AND, this time, to keep moving and not stop after a while, here’s how you do it –> www.myrise.co.uk/apply
