Those of you that are Facebook friends with me may have seen that I had a holiday in South Devon with my wife and children last week.
It was lovely.
I checked my InBody assessment this last Monday on my return to the club.
And I’d lost a pound of body fat.
Not what happens on holiday for the majority of us (myself included) the majority of the time.
Thinking back, it wasn’t difficult to work out the reasons for this.
There was two of them.
Not necessarily ones that we will all repeat when on holiday, sure.
But ones we can probably replicate in our everyday life.
1. Smaller plates
The plates in our holiday cottage were considerably smaller than the ones in my house.
I’m pretty sure most meals I had in the week with smaller because of that.
And there’s a lot of research that backs up that smaller plates equates to less food consumed.
Try it?
2. Packed lunches
On all but one day we had a packed lunch whilst out and about.
A set amount of food that I couldn’t increase without a special trip to a shop.
Which I wasn’t going to do, partly to save money and partly because my kids would ask for more food themselves and complain if I said no.
When we have the option to keep eating until we choose not to, it’s very easy to overconsume.
Whether that’s returning to the fridge or helping ourselves from something off the table, if we remove this option, we’re bound to eat less.
Like I said, you won’t necessarily replicate these adjustments whilst on holiday (although you could).
But you could easily change your plates at home and minimise how much food is generally available at meal (and other) times.
Easy adjustments, barely noticeable change to our enjoyment but results that will add up.
Much love,
Jon ‘Techtonic’ Hall
