I saw a post online the other day about substitute characters in TV programmes and films.

Asking which were people’s favourite and the least favourite.

Quite a few people said that they thought Uncle Albert was inferior as a replacement for Grandad in Only Fools And Horses.

Which surprised me, as I much preferred him.

But it got me thinking.

It always surprises me when my nephew says his favourite Star Wars films are the prequels of Episodes 1 to 3.

To me, they are vastly inferior to the original Episodes 4, 5 and 6.

But it’s the same thing really, as I’d grown up with Uncle Albert and only became aware of Grandad later on through reruns.

It’s often just what we’re used to and other things seem less good.

We often struggle with changes to our eating because they are just different to what we’re used to.

They feel inferior but chances are, if we’d approached it in another direction, we’d feel the opposite.

Imagine if you’d always eaten in a certain way that took a certain amount of time and money, and you’d always had the body and energy levels that you desired.

Then someone came along and told you about a new way of eating that “will save you a few minutes here and there, and it’s a little bit tastier”……

But would cause you to gain weight and have lower energy.

I’m sure we’d all say “I’m OK, thanks”.

It’s often not the thing that’s difficult, it’s doing something different to what we’re used to.

Different often feels wrong before it feels normal.

Much love,
