The following is a paraphrased summary of many conversations I’ve had over the years with people a few weeks after they’ve joined us;
Member: “I’ve just realised that it wasn’t a good time to start”
Me: “How come?”
“I’ve had a few parties and social events over the last few weeks”.
“So?”
“Well I’ve eaten more than I intended to have not lost as much weight as I would have liked”.
“But you’ve lost weight haven’t you?”
“Yeah, but not much”.
“Were you gaining or losing weight before you started?”
“Well, gaining”.
“So you’ve made better progress over the last few weeks than you were before despite lots of socialising? Sounds good to me. You’re in a better position than you would have been if you hadn’t started”
“I suppose. But I’d have done better if I’d started later on when I didn’t have all these things on”
“I get that. But if you’d not started a few weeks ago, you’d have gained more weight and had more to do and still be further behind come this time next month or whenever. You’re always better off starting earlier whatever happens”.
“Yeah, you’re right”.
“It might not have been an absolute perfect time. But that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a good time. It’s always a good time”.

Like I said, I’ve paraphrased that.
But it’s the basic gist of a conversation. I’ve had many many times.
If you can imagine yourself as the other half of that conversation, then maybe it’s worth questioning getting started / back to it?
