I mentioned in yesterday’s blog about a podcast I’d listen to.
And cleverly (I’d like to think at least) paralleled the talk about creating cultures in business into how we can stop other people trying to flabotage us.
Another little nugget that I took from the podcast about telling the truth is………
That we can defer it.
For a time that it will land better.
The podcast guest gave the example of being invited to a play that a friend was performing in.
He thought the play was awful so, when she asked what he thought about it afterwards he replied with “I really enjoyed seeing you do you stuff and appreciate the invite”.
Which was true.
Telling her he thought the play itself was awful immediately after would probably just have upset her.
He then rang her up the next day and asked if she would like to know what he actually thought about the play itself.
Tempting as it was, telling her that the play was great afterwards would have been a lie and not what she ultimately wanted.
So, we can defer the truth.
Like we can do our decisions.
To a time that makes more sense.
Even just putting them back 10 minutes can be powerful.
We can always delay that decision as to whether or not we’re going to have that slice of cake or piece of chocolate by 10 minutes.
We might then choose still to have it.
But we also might not after the moment has passed.
Or we can make decisions earlier.
Decide what we’re going to have for a meal when we do the weekly food shop rather than when we’re hungry and in a rush.
Telling the truth at a different time can make more sense.
As can be making our decisions around our eating.
Much love,

P.S. It’s tempting to defer clicking this link because you’ve got “too much on right now”. That won’t change. It’s doing what we can when busy that’ll get you there. Future you will thank you for taking that step now —> www.myrise.co.uk/apply
