Before people start with this at RISE, they’re often concerned that they “won’t be able to keep up’.

That they “can’t do it”.

That they’ll “fail”.

Which I get.

Most people, by the time they join us, have probably had experiences of exercise where they’ve felt, to some degree, that way.

But, what we do is not an exam.

There is no pass or fail.

And it’s not a race.

We can’t fall behind.

A Group Personal Training Session is essentially the same as a 1:1 Personal Training session, just in a group.

Everyone’s just doing their own workout.

The same basic structure for everyone in that Session……..

With individualization where needed………

And a mixture of general group coaching and 1:1 support and direction within that………

But we never think that we “couldn’t keep up” in or “wouldn’t be able to do” or would “fail” a 1:1 Session, would we?

We’d just do it.

We’d do it at the right level for us.

And a Group PT Session is just the same.

And often, when we perceive that we failed with our eating, that’s because we’ve set a definition of success that was so vague it was never going to happen.

If our intention is to “eat better this week”, it’s really hard to know if we’re on track.

We’re left with how we feel about it.

And “how we feel” will usually tell us “it’s not going great”.

Or if we have set a more concrete definition, it’s often very ‘best place scenario’.

And one that doesn’t allow for any catching up.

Some version of eating and drinking at the weekend that we’re probably never actually going to do.

That’s just setting us out up to feel like we’ve failed.

An average deficit across the week is something we can always do.

A goal that sets us up to hit it.

One that allows for over consumption at some times……..

To be balanced out by under consumption at others.

Ultimately, if you regularly feel that you’re failing at exercise and / or your eating……..

You’re probably not approaching either in a way that setting you up for success.
