I mentioned the other week that my most recent quarterly meet up for the coaching program that I’m part of was at Goodison Park in Liverpool.
I’ve been to many of these meetups over the years.
But this one was next level.
The energy in the room was unlike anything I’ve ever seen.
At these quarterlies, amongst other things, we review the last quarter.
Looking at what went well.
And what went less so.
And lessons we can learn from both of the above.
One thing I’ve realised at several of the recent quarterlies………….
Is that the things I didn’t end up doing……………..
Were the things that were the least planned.
The things I just thought I’d “try and fit in”.
That I had great intentions of doing……..
But I just ended up doing other stuff instead.
Paul, the guy who’s coaching program it is, made a statement which really hit home.
His version probably had considerably more swear words it.
But this is the basic premise.
“If you didn’t schedule it in at the start of the quarter……………
Then you had zero intention of doing it.”
Initially I was somewhat triggered by this.
I had intended to do it.
How dare he?
But I’ve been in this game long enough to know that when something triggers you……….
There’s probably a reason for it.
He was right.
If something consistently doesn’t happen………..
And we’re not putting it in our diary for a set time and protecting that time……..
Or at the very least having it scheduled but allowing it to move……..
Then we had zero intention of actually doing it.
If we don’t plan when we’re going to do our workouts………
And then they don’t happen……..
We had zero intention of doing them.
Whatever we might tell ourselves.
If we consistently don’t eat well enough to progress towards the goals that we say we desire……..
And we’re not scheduling time to plan meals or get suitable food choices in………..
Then we had zero intention of making those different food choices.
If we say that we want to feel better……..
And we accept that regular meditation would make us feel better (and thre’s tonnes of research that shows it will)……..
And we don’t schedule in when we intend to meditate………..
Then we had zero intention of feeling better.
If we don’t even have a diary or schedule or some of the system for planning what we’re going to do and when………..
Other then “It’s in my head”………….
And we consistently don’t do the things that we set out to do……….
Then we had zero intention of doing them.
And all of this is fine.
You and I can do what we want with our time.
But let’s not kid ourselves.
If we don’t plan to do something……….
We’re planning not to do it.
Much love,
Jon ‘N(intend)o’ Hall
