Over the last few days I’ve talked about emotions that we might experience that aren’t necessarily a bad thing.

I would suggest that, if we never felt anxious or experienced what could be termed ‘Imposter Syndrome’, we would have never really have grown and challenged ourselves.

And would, therefore, have a life that we were less than happy with.

Something else that we might tempted to try and avoid is something that could make us feel bad if we don’t do it.

Over the years many people have said some version of this blog title to me.

“You won’t make me feel bad if I don’t do this, will you?”

“Well, I’m not a d*ck” my response might start.

“But if you set out to do something, don’t do it, and then don’t feel at least somewhat bad about that……..

Then surely that wasn’t something you ever really cared about?”

“Or, at the very least, maybe we’re not approaching this in a way that’s setting us up for success?”

It’s absolutely okay to feel bad about doing, or not doing, something.

It’s not a thing to be avoided.

Again, it’s an emotion that that’s there for a reason.

Now it makes perfect sense to approach doing things in a way to maximise them happening………

And, therefore, minimise the frequency of this emotion that way.

But what doesn’t make sense is to avoid even trying and / or to kid ourselves that it doesn’t matter if we then don’t do it.

Pretending that we’re not disappointed in ourselves is just hiding the reality.

And, let’s be honest, I think we all know that will lead to even worse results.

Set goals.

Create well thought out and arranged plans to make these things happen.

Be at least somewhat disappointed if we then don’t do these things for reasons within our control.

Learn from that.

Set better plans next time.

Much love,

Jon ‘Badstreet USA’ Hall

P.S. You might have guesses that my approach is to set you up for success rather than just give you the same list of things to do that you’ve had countless times before, then berate you when they don’t happen.
