I got a comment on a recent Facebook advert.
“You should concentrate on your member retention” it began.
“Then you wouldn’t need to spend so much time on advertising”.
Which was ill-informed at best.
Our retention is excellent for the Fitness Industry.
But, yeah, people do leave from time to time for various reasons.
Find me a single gym or facility where they don’t.
Those that claim that “no one ever leaves” are either clueless about their business or lying (or both).
So this person was just completely making up our retention levels.
As they were with how much time I spend advertising.
It takes a few minutes set up an advert.
I adjust the budget on my phone occasionally dependant on the numbers we need.
Facebook then does all the work.
Just because they might see my ad several times in the month doesn’t mean that I’m spending time manually putting it in front of them each time.
It’s just something that I’ve left running.
Minutes of work per month.
But we don’t know what we don’t know.
And it’s easy to create false narratives based on the little information that we feel we do have.
In many areas of life.
It’s easy to tell ourselves that “I can’t seem to lose weight no matter what I try” when we don’t have an accurate breakdown of our energy consumption.
It’s easy to say that we’re “too busy” to do something when we don’t have a detailed log of where we’re currently assigning our time (and our none essentially screen time and Netflix usage are more than zero).
It’s easy to think that something isn’t for us without trying it (cough *** www.myrise.co.uk/apply *** cough)
We all form opinions and beliefs based on, at best, insufficein information.
Human nature.
But we can all question that.
Get sufficient information.
And see if that opinion holds up.
Or it it reveals a truth that will serve us better!
Much love,
